Art Historian

After my studies at the Sapienza University of Rome (1997 Degree; 2004 Postgraduate degree “Scuola di specializzazione in Storia dell’arte medievale e moderna”; 2004 Ph.D. in Art History), I have been lecturer on contract at the Sapienza University of Rome and at the University of Ferrara. 2004-2005 I got a post-doc fellowship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max-Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte; thereafter I kept cooperating with the Hertziana as researcher in several projects and as researcher assistant to the Director. At present I am still free associated researcher at the Hertziana with the project “Orsini and Savelli”.

Moreover I have carried on research on Flemish Renaissance tapestries in cooperation with the Vatican Museums. February 2014 I have been licensed with the National Academic Qualification as Associate Professor in the History of Art. Since March 2014 I have been PI in the project “Orsini and Savelli in Papal Rome” (Firb 2013), and fixed term researcher at the University G. D’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara, where I teach History of drawing and print-making in early modern Europe at MA course “Beni Archeologici e Storico-Artistici”.

I am interested mainly in the cultural transfer between Rome and German-speaking lands, 16th -18th centuries, from the viewpoint of: history of collecting in Italy; European diplomats in Rome as patrons and collectors; German-speaking artists and their networks in early modern Rome; Artistic and travel literature in the 17th century (with a special focus on Joachim von Sandrart’s Teutsche Academie); Roman aristocracy and artistic patronage; Flemish tapestries in Italian collections; Garden History; my publications are focused on the mentioned topics.
